Fálkinn

Fálkinn (The Falcon) is a 19 km trail run with an elevation gain of 530 m. A fun course that most people can handle.

The race starts in Kjarnaskógur Forest. From there, the trail is up to the cliff face above the forest, where there is a great view of the town and the fjord. The runners go past Fálkafell hut and from there down to Súlubílastæði aid station. From Súlubílastæði, the route is over Glerá River and then follows a path known as Fallorkustígur along the Glerá River down to Hlíðarbraut road. The race crosses over Hlíðarbraut and continues along the Glerá River to the University of Akureyri. Finally, the last 2–3 kilometers are run along city streets to the Akureyri City Center finish line.

Starting time

  • Runners will start in waves, the fastest runners first at 11:30 and others after that at five minutes intervals.
  • Buses leave Hof Cultre Center in Akureyri for Kjarnaskógur at 10.45-11.00.

Cut off times

  • Runners are expected to complete the race within four hours.

Age limit

  • The minimum age for competitors is 15 years. Competitors under 18 years of age must provide the name of a guardian.

Mandatory equipment

  • Bottle/cup 0.5 l minimum (there will be no cups at the aid station).
